About Pull

What is Pull?

Pull is a notification management app designed to help you reclaim control over your digital attention. Instead of being constantly interrupted by endless notifications, Pull acts as an intelligent layer between your apps and you, filtering, organizing, and summarizing notifications so you only see what truly matters.

Our Mission

In today's digital world, your attention is constantly being pulled in multiple directions. Pull exists to give you back your freedom and focus. We believe you should decide what deserves your attention—not the apps on your phone.

Key Benefits

  • Reduce distractions by filtering out unwanted notifications
  • Stay organized with a centralized notification hub
  • Save time with intelligent summaries and categorization
  • Maintain control over which notifications reach you and when
  • Access history to review past notifications at any time

Getting Started

Step 1: Download and Install

Download Pull from the Google Play Store and install it on your Android device.

Step 2: Grant Notification Access

After opening Pull for the first time, you'll be prompted to grant notification access. This is essential for Pull to work.

  1. Tap "Open Settings" when prompted
  2. Find "Pull" in the list of apps
  3. Toggle "Allow notification access" to ON
  4. Confirm your choice

Why is this needed? Pull requires notification access to read, filter, and organize notifications from your other apps. Without this permission, Pull cannot function.

Step 3: Explore the Interface

Once set up, Pull will begin capturing notifications. You'll see:

  • Home Screen: Your organized notification inbox
  • History: Complete log of all past notifications
  • Rules: Your custom filtering preferences
  • Settings: App configuration options

Features & How It Works

Notification Centralization

All notifications from your installed apps are collected in one place. This includes:

  • Messages and communications
  • Social media updates
  • App alerts and reminders
  • System notifications

You can browse, search, and interact with all your notifications without switching between apps.

Intelligent Filtering

Pull distinguishes between important notifications and low-priority ones using:

  • App-based rules: Filter notifications by specific apps
  • Keyword matching: Block or prioritize based on content
  • Time-based rules: Different behavior for different times of day
  • Category detection: Automatic categorization of notification types

Summary & Organization

Long or repetitive notifications are condensed into clear summaries, allowing you to quickly understand the essence of each alert. Notifications can be organized by:

  • Application source
  • Category (messages, social, alerts, etc.)
  • Priority level
  • Time received

Quick Actions

Interact with notifications directly within Pull:

  • Swipe right: Mark as useful/important
  • Swipe left: Dismiss or mark as unwanted
  • Tap: Open the source app
  • Long press: Access more options

Complete History

Every notification ever received is stored and accessible. You can:

  • Search past notifications
  • Review old messages
  • Access notifications you may have missed
  • Track notification patterns over time

Permissions Explained

Pull requires certain permissions to function properly. Here's what each permission does and why it's needed:

Notification Access (Required)

Permission: Notification Listener Service

Why needed: This is the core permission that allows Pull to read and manage notifications from your other apps. Without this, Pull cannot access your notifications.

What it does:

  • Reads notification content (title, text, app name)
  • Allows Pull to organize and filter notifications
  • Enables notification history features

Internet Access

Why needed: Required for:

  • Syncing filtering strategies from our servers
  • AI-powered rule suggestions (optional feature)
  • Downloading updated dictionaries for better filtering

What it does NOT do: Does not upload your personal notifications to any server (except when using AI features with your consent).

Post Notifications

Why needed: Allows Pull to send you feedback notifications, such as confirmation when a rule is created, status updates about blocked notifications, and important app alerts.

Vibrate

Why needed: Provides haptic feedback when you interact with notifications (swipes, taps, etc.)

Package Usage Stats (Optional)

Why needed: Helps Pull understand which apps send you the most notifications, improving filtering suggestions.

Managing Permissions

You can manage all permissions at any time:

  1. Go to Android Settings > Apps > Pull
  2. Tap Permissions
  3. Enable or disable individual permissions

Note: Disabling notification access will prevent Pull from functioning.

Managing Your Notifications

Viewing Notifications

Your main inbox displays all captured notifications. Each notification shows:

  • App icon and name
  • Notification title and preview
  • Time received
  • Priority indicator (if applicable)

Filtering Your View

Use the filter options to:

  • Show only specific apps
  • Sort by time, priority, or app
  • Search for specific content
  • View blocked vs. allowed notifications

Taking Action

Mark as Important: Swipe right or tap the star icon to mark a notification as important. Pull will learn from this feedback.

Dismiss: Swipe left to dismiss a notification. Repeated dismissals of similar notifications help Pull learn your preferences.

Open Source App: Tap any notification to open the original app.

Delete: Long press and select "Delete" to remove a notification from history.

Batch Operations

Select multiple notifications to:

  • Mark all as read
  • Delete selection
  • Block sender
  • Create a filtering rule

Creating Filtering Rules

Rules are the heart of Pull's filtering system. They tell Pull what to do with specific types of notifications.

Types of Rules

App Rules

Block or prioritize all notifications from a specific app.

Example: Block all notifications from a shopping app.

Keyword Rules

Filter based on words in the notification content.

Example: Block notifications containing "sale" or "discount".

Sender Rules

Filter messages from specific contacts or senders.

Example: Always prioritize notifications from "Boss" or "Family".

Time Rules

Apply different filtering behavior at different times.

Example: Block social media notifications during work hours (9 AM - 5 PM).

Category Rules

Filter by notification category (promotions, messages, updates, etc.).

Example: Block all promotional notifications.

Creating a Rule Manually

  1. Go to Rules in the main menu
  2. Tap the + button
  3. Choose the rule type
  4. Configure the conditions
  5. Select the action (block, prioritize, etc.)
  6. Save the rule

Automatic Rule Suggestions

When you dismiss or interact with notifications, Pull may suggest relevant rules based on your behavior. You can accept, modify, or reject these suggestions.

Managing Existing Rules

  • Enable/Disable: Toggle rules on or off without deleting them
  • Edit: Modify conditions or actions
  • Delete: Remove rules permanently
  • Reorder: Set priority when multiple rules could apply

AI-Powered Features

What is "Pull on Device"?

Pull on Device is our optional AI-powered feature that helps create smarter filtering rules. When enabled, it analyzes notification patterns to suggest optimal blocking and prioritization rules.

How It Works

  1. You encounter a notification you want to filter
  2. Pull sends limited notification data to our secure AI service
  3. The AI analyzes patterns and suggests appropriate rules
  4. You review and approve the suggested rules

What Data is Sent?

When using AI features, the following data may be processed:

  • App package name (e.g., "com.example.app")
  • Notification title and text
  • Channel and category information
  • Anonymous device identifier

What is NOT sent:

  • Your personal contacts
  • Your location
  • Financial information
  • Content from apps where Pull doesn't have access

Disabling AI Features

If you prefer not to use AI-powered features:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy
  2. Toggle off "AI-Assisted Rules"
  3. No notification data will be sent to external servers

You can still create rules manually without AI assistance.
